As an entrepreneur, over the last few years using social media, I’ve noticed an increase in the lack of manners by many people who I’ve connected with. What do I mean?
When someone sends me a friend request via Facebook, once I accept, after a few days I then send a message either on their wall or by inbox welcoming them to my network, asking them to read more about me via my websites; www.oamediahouse.com and www.b1coaching.com read my latest blog post and like both my Facebook pages; Onyi Anyado Media House and B1 Coaching. Remember, the initial request wasn’t sent by me so there’s nothing worse than someone ignoring my message I sent them. I’m laughing out loud as I write this because when you send someone a message via their inbox, you can see the exact time they read the message; LOL. I’ve got to a point after ignoring my messages, I just ‘unfriend’ them. It might seem harsh but what would you do if someone came to your house, sat at your table and didn’t say a word? LOL, I thought so.
The same thing happens more on LinkedIn. For me as an entrepreneur, LinkedIn is more professional so if someone sends me a request after accepting, a few days later, I send a welcome message. The response is much lower than on Facebook but to be fair, it’s quite a long process to ‘unfriend’ someone on LinkedIn; LOL LOL. I mean, these are professional people and one would think, they would take two minutes to reply and say thank you for me accepting their request but hey, I’m obviously wrong; LOL.
For me, it is good business practise when you send someone a request via social media that you; 1. introduce yourself and what you do and 2. Say thank you. You’d be surprised what a simple thank you means in business.
